In the U.S. the inner lights are flash to pass only, not lit in high-beam as they are in Europe.

Ah - In the USofA we do not get the halogen high beams. Only the Xenon high beams.

They should be fine for driving on the interstate and around the burbs, BUT not on the empty highways of the Great Plains or Rocky Mtns.

Questions:

!. Does the US high beam lamp have a different reflector shape than the Euro version?

2. Is the difference in operation (high beams in the EU, Flash to Pass and DRL in the USA) a software or hardware difference?

Tnx

I once inported a motorcycle from the US. I was then told to change the reflector due to different rules between the states and europe.

In the states the reflectors are design to reflect the light straight forward. In Europe the reflectors have to reflect the light to the right to light up the passanger side of the road (opposite in Uk ofcourse).

I guess the logic is that the US mostly has more one way drives both on small roads as well as highways.

It's true that there are different specifications between the US and Europe when it comes to lighting and reflectors but I'm pretty sure that the angle of reflection isn't part of the equation. The biggest difference that you'll find is that in the US, the front (sides) of the car is required to have an amber colored reflector and the rear (sides) is required to have red ones. Aside from that, there are some differences in dimensions and placement of the reflectors but again, I don't think there's anything dealing with the reflection angles...
