Does anyone find the same as me that on some day's the auto box is smooth as silk then on other day's it doesn't seem to know what the revs are doing causing erratic changes and rev surges?

mmmm...not really. Once happened a transmission slam and it was like somebody hit my rear end and sometimes the gearbox changes it's shiftpoints once every 1000km or so duing to the particle filter but that's about all.

Might be worth seeing if a software update may help. Some of the issues I had early on have gone away with the later versions of the software. The auto box in our E60's is fantastic, but sometimes its the software that causes many of the problems. Do you know what version you might be running right now?

if cold start the tranny revs and shifts a little "rough" for a few minutes.... this is done on purpose to warm up the tranny oil and engine....

My car is going for a software upgrade on the CD player on Wed, I don't suppose you know what software upgrade I would need to ask for to solve the auto problem?

Marty,

I am afraid that the problems with the transmission you describe are exactly the same as I experience with my car. I have been through CIP versions 16, 17, 18 and now on 20.01 for the past few days, and so far it seems to be behaving but I am not holding my breath!

The tranny jerks, slams and responds differently evry now and then, Sometimes it changes at 2500 rpm and then with the same throttle input it suddenly revs to 5000 rpm. I have had the car back to the dealership more time than I like to remember.

Good luck!!

Mine has been much better since I got version 17 and up. 17 cured the transmission slam issue for me, 18 and 19 seemed to help out with the general smoothness and responsiveness. I don't have v20 yet and haven't got any specific reason to get an update so other might be able to chime in with their experiences.

I would hold off unless you have a problem or it will get you MP3 capability. I did it to get MP3; at this point I would not do so again since MP3 capability is not extremely important to me. Check my current thread on performance woes from 20.01.00.
