I notice the difference.

It seems that every time I pass another E60 on the road, they are always a 530 or 525.

I just smile and hit the gas...? leaving them in my dust, staring at my 545 emblem.

Don't worry, the M5 and 550 will soon leave you in their dust.

we're not talking about a roadcourse here, or we weren't before.... an experienced driver in a much lesser car can easily beat out an inexperienced driver in a supercar....

and of couse if the 545i hits traffic, you can catch up.... whats the point, you could catch up if you were in a Miata.... that has nothing to do with driver or car capabilities....

I'm not putting any cars down, my point was that if you don't think 100HP makes a big difference at 60+ MPH with regards to acceleration, you're in for a surprise....

an extra 100HP makes a big difference at any speed...? not just off the line....? neither the 525 or 530 could keep up with a 545, even starting from 100MPH....
If you have ever raced you may notice that other car are on the road ... yes engine still does play a roll but not as much as it does off the line.. I can still catch up to a 545 if he gets a little caught up makes the wrong move and so on... yes if it was a straight line continuously and no interruptions then yes it would.. but in the real world you have things like traffic, other dumb drivers, and ones who may not know how to use their 545 .. so once again im goin to say, the driver has a BIG part in a race of these cars because one must know how to maneuver... I'm not denying the 4.5L engine is kick ass I have one and know what its capable of..and I know that it can beat out the 2.5L and 3.0L but there are times when a 525 or 530 can beat one due to surcumstances..thats my point

Agreed, When I took my car to the Buttonwillow Driving school, there were lesser cars (engine size) than my 545i out there that I would have to let pass.(Did not want to admit that) Their experience/other vehicle factors allowed them to take the corners faster than I was willing too at that point and thus were faster around the track than I was. Of course some of them had track tires, upgraded suspension, but the point as Hamman5 noted, there are other vehicle factors that are important, and of course the driver, versus the engine size. Drag strip, is a little different story, but I don't drive on too many of those.

Another case in point, is that I passed the E39 M5 a couple of times at the track.

Agree, that is why I got mine, that surge to pass, and on ramps. It is also welcome on long uphill grades.

Thumbs down

OK OK OK.

Let's not have a pissing contest amongst ourselves.

What do you consider a "race" ?

1 Traffic light to traffic light drag race (safest IMO)

2 weaving in and out of stop and go or rush hour traffic on a highway

3 full throttle on an open expressway?

It's all fun and games, shits and giggles until you or someone else gets hurt.

In any case if i have a F360 Modena and you have a 545i i'm not going to waste my time racing you at all because i could buy three of your cars.

I've often heard that the best mod you can do for your car's performance is for you, the driver, to take a course on the track!

That is why I went to the Driving School, am going to another one in April, and another one in May. Plus it is a controlled environment.

Lol.

What have I done? I didn't mean for this thread to be mine-is-bigger-than-yours thing, er, I mean my-engine-is-faster-than-yours thing. Nevertheless, there are times when slow is good, know what I mean?

Just kidding, boys.
