I cuurently have a 545 stuck at the VPC waiting for a DME on recall. It has been there for at least ten days and I have no idea when it will arrive at the dealer. Worst case scenario a month, I figure but who knows. Should I refuse delivery and order an '05 545? I know the earliest I could probably take delivery on an 05 would be mid October. I am probably looking at a serious depreciation hit upon if I stick with the 04. Should I try to get my CA to knock off a few $$? Any and all opinions appreciated.

I'd pursue a price decrease and go through with the order. Threaten to cancel if you have to. Otherwise, place an order on the '05.

If you are willing to wait for an '05 then you're in a great bargaining position.

Do what 555 says and negotiate a better deal or place a new order. You might suffer a bit on a MY05 price increase but you'll be balancing that against the depreciation/resale value down the road of the MY04 car.

Also, another benefit is that you'll probably benefit from less software bugs, etc. on the new car (maybe).

Then again, it might kill you to wait until October -- I know it would kill me!

I am in the same situation, my car has been at the VPC for ten days and my dealer called today saying that it should arrived sometime the second week of August ( which pissed me off!!).
Originally, my car wasn't part of the recall and I am wondering why does it have to stay there for 3 weeks?
What do you guys recommend to do at this point?

Thanks for your advise,
Samy

Thanks guys, I will call my CA tomorrow. If he answers(I think he's avoiding me) I'll see what I can do. I really want my car but if the wait is one month vs. two and a half for an 05 I may just bide my time. I figure if the people with delivered cars are driving loaners, I deserve a little something too .

I am in a slightly different, but similar situation.

Prior to ordering my 545i, my dealer told me that the '05s would not be released until late March of 2005, arriving late April or early May. So, with that information, I ordered the '04. My '04 is on its way and scheduled to arrive at the dealership mid August.

Does this give me barganing power? I got the '04 for about 2% over invoice, so I am sure this will not happen on the '05. In this case, would it work out better to take the depreciation?

What do you guys think?

Update - I talked to my CA today and he confirmed that my 04 545 will probably arrive from the VPC on 8/28. I inquired about a 05 as well as a discount on the 04 and he's going to get with the sales manager to come with a plan.
