A problem with component quality - to do with the lower rubber mount and metal bush on the rear shocks - upon inspection my E60 (03/06) was evidently showing early signs of failure (15,300k miles.)


Re the SZL recall - I posed the question to my local dealer, response was not clear as to builds affected. This recall is not listed on any web site I've read either......

 

I think it might be E60s built in 2006, possibly from March/April onwards? I know a friend of mine had the problem 2 months ago.

 

Checked with the dealer today - mine is 'ok' apparently. No clues on affected range...

 

The SZL is the steering angle sensor. I have been told it only affects 2006 builds from September 2005 until March 2006.

 

My car was built during that range, it shows all signs of an SZL failure but my dealer continues to insist that the SZL module is fine, my car is not covered for the recall and that all that's wrong is some leaking grommet in the gearbox! Car goes in on Friday to get this part replaced, I've had to wait for 10 days for it to arrive from Germany.

 

Dropped my 530i with the dealer this morning with the steering sensor problem (my IDrive clearly shows the message). He was aware of the issue and stated that he has been handling a lot of them.

Just a correction for a prior post by a fellow member. The 2007 models were released early this year so my April 2006 manufactured car was a 2007 model and the steering sensor was affected.

My dealer raised the issue that my 19" #166 wheels (upgrade) could have been the problem, but he quickly backed off that assertion when I told him about the UK recall and the US SIB. When a dealer knows that you come to the table with knowledge, it makes a great difference in how they treat you.

I am also having the rear strut recall issue handled today, as well as a creeking brake issue (which could be related to the steering sensor).

Had the steering sensor thing done on my 520d earlier this week. Car was in for about an hour so I waited, not sure if it's me but the steering seems more direct. My car is a Sept 2005 build.

 

my 01/2006(probably build 12/2005) 550 e61 seems to be affected, at least i got summoned today to report to the dealer

 

I had my SZL recall work and some other gearbox grommet change carried out so I took the car on to the motor way to check if I could reproduce the DBC and DSC faults that occured. Guess what they do

Can somebody else with a 520D manual try this out and tell me what happens. I'm sure I have a fault that my stupid dealer has not removed.

Go on to the motor way at 70mph in 6th gear and engage the cruise control exactly at 70. Then move the cruise control control away so as to increase speed by 5 mph and then all the lights appear.
