Local shop changed oil (used regular vs synthetic). Put synthetic back in but wondered how bad it is to mix oils?? THanks

I think that your car will be fine as the synthetic takes over again (did they ever turn the engine on?), but the residual will unfortunately stick around for the life of the car.

That being said, what were they thinking?

I guess you live in a more rural area where they do not see to many 5-series.

- if you did not do a full drain and then put in synth then change it less than 5k kms

- if you did a full drain and put in synth then you are fine.

My wife went for an inspection sticker and they suggested the oil change....gotta watch the "up sell" at the garages. Your right, not too many 5-series. Thanks for the feedback.

You could always get it flushed out as well.
