Well, guys, I know it is an odd problem but all of your opinions are well accepted.

Just a point: should I follow the "always stay on" option on my 40K tube monoblocks, I would spend half that amount on tubes in about two years.

I actually think it would make little difference. See cobradav's post above.

Well, my Hickok Tube tester assumes the contrary <_<

OT MODE ON
Well, let me be precise: it is certainly sure that switching on and off a "tube driven equpment " several times could be more dangerous and "lifespan shortening" than leaving it on 24 hours per day but we have to remember that lifespan of high end audio equipment valves is fixed at few thousend hours more or less which means that, should I leave my amps on 24h per day, I should change the valve kit three times a year.

Obviously, these are just opinions: audiophile world is always in struggle.

OT MODE OFF

Sorry I should have been more clear on the "HIGH" power systems I was referring to. We left the systems low power on all the time, but only used the HIGH power portions when required (actual satellite or missile track, or calibration target track). Yes we did conserve use of the actual HIGH power but kept filaments on and tubes warm. How well I know the need to conserve the high power tubes as they were about $50k to $350k each depending on complexity of and number of the tunable cavities.

When I press the mute button sound goes off but when I re-press it 10 mins later the CD has kept playing and it comes on at a new song. Is this normal?

While searching for something else, I came across this service bulletin; notice the last "complaint" (that I copied, list went on longer):

SI B 61 14 03
General Electrical Systems October 2005
Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin supersedes S.I. B61 14 03 dated September 2005.

Hmm, this was a problem with the older s/w, was fixed around V12.x if I remember correctly. As you have a 550i, you must be on at least v18/19. Hope they haven't reintroduced this bug.
