So I have 72K on my 2005 545i. I have noticed on the lovely roads of Ann Arbor, that every little crack or bump/elevation in the road is now distinctly transmitted to the entire vehicle body. It's as if there was no suspension left at all...

Is the problem the coil springs, the shocks or something else? I'd like to replace OEM only but am open to suggestions. I am not looking to drop the car or to make it look more aggressive, just trying to improve ride comfort as well as the general feel of the car. Right now, I don't dare to keep coffee in the cup holder in fear that it may spill over [yes, there's a story behind that ]

As always, your help is appreciated

+1 on new shocks. If you're looking for OEM looks and feel, I would recommend Eibach Pro-Kit springs and some Koni adjustable shocks. Or you can just do it right and get a set of coilovers.

Seems strange that the shocks are already worn out with these miles. I have approx. 100k miles on my 530d and it's just getting more supple than new (but it has Dynamic Drive and sportsuspension)

Changing the runflat tyres to regular Michelin would make an improvement (but it won't help much if your shocks are worn out).

Personally, if you are after a better setup but no lowering then just get some new Koni adjustable shocks. They will transform the ride without changing the appearance.

Personally I would do the above but match it with some Eibach or H&R springs...

Guys - thanks very much for the responses. So I'm hearing shocks that need to be replaced. What about the bushings? I read somewhere that this was the major issue.

For some more info, I don't have runflats and I know the ride quality sucks there! I replaced my tyres 10K miles ago so I know that's not it either. Anyone know how much new shocks would cost me at the stealers vs at a reputable place? What do the Konis run? Can Discount Tyre install these????
