I never noticed this before I put 20's on my car. The front of the car sits uneven. The front passenger side of the car seems to sit about 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch lower than the driver side. I know it could be a million things and I should have it checked out, but I just wanted to see if this was anything simple or common...perhaps a worn out grommet?

I have sport suspension, unmodified and recently completely aligned.

I wish the rest of the car sat like that the top of the tire is exactly the height of the edge of the fender well. The other 3 tires sit about 1/2 inch higher. The only reason I got out of the car to notice it is because when I was doing some spirited canyon driving the other day, the tire kept rubbing the fender in hairpin turns.

Sounds like whoever did the job, did it wrong. I'd get it checked out.

Don't worry, it's meant to be that way.
When the driver steps in the car, it levels.

Edit: But rubbing doesn't sound right.

could be the front passenger shock is bad!
Most of the time the driver side is a tad higher on the e60.

As pointed out - they all do that. BMWs are setup that way so they level out when the driver is in the car alone (as it is normally the case).

Haha, that's amazing, makes perfect sense. I have never owned a car that was so driver oriented, how funny.

I am pretty sure the shocks are bad, as I have 85K miles and they appear to be original.

I will take it to the shop and have them take the tire off to inspect.

Thanks for the answers guys!

Who did the recent alignment? BMW?

The passenger side is a bit lower by design when there is no driver sitting in the car. See here for more threads about this:

I don't think rubbing is normal but then again, since you put the 20's on, there may be a small size issue between the factory setup and the current setup...

Thanks Rudy, looks like you have had to subtly remind others of the 'search' button before.

For some reason I assumed this was such an off the wall problem that I was unique in having to experience it.

Now that I have read all the links you gave me, I will not be going to the shop, I hate waiting for it - now I can put it off for another couple months until I get my nav retrofitted.

they are all like that..

when I first bought my car it really pissed me off.. i thought something was wrong as well.
every time I saw another e60 in a parking lot I would do a finger test to compare this with my car , and it was exactly the same. The driver side was always higher.
I think the driver side might have some type of hydraulic controlled air adjustment. When ever I turn my car off I notice a sound coming from the engine bay as if something is adjusting.

german engineering is great !
