Default Suspension (best route to take)

Hi all
I have an air noise comin from my suspension at the front (drivers side) so have been lookin at coilovers. But when i went 2 my local bmw specialist he said on these cars make sure u buy oem parts. So wat do people think of there coilovers because im now not to sure wat to do. So how pleased are u guys with ur coilies or shall i stay oem???
Ps anyone in the manchester area that does work on these cars nd would like to help me in some areas im not that good with would appreciate that for some extra ca5h;-).
Thanks james

BMW suspensions are very precise. The coil springs must be perfectly aligned on the strut (shock absorber) bases in order to align correctly. Even the rubber coil spring mounts needs precise location.

This is not your typical round coils spring fitted to a round shock base plate. The lower spring is a weird kind of oblong shape that must be fitted correctly. If you look at your OEM setup, you'll notice three painted dots on your coil spring and a notch in the lower strut spring base plate. All of this related to precise alignment

I'm not sure how precise the aftermarket stuff is.

The strut mount (I don't believe that Bilstein, KYB, etc even make a corresponding strut mount) is a ball bearing unit that will wear very quickly if the coil spring is not correctly/precisely mounted.

I don't know, I've been a big fan of Bilstein (Mercedes experience) so it's not a prejudice against them. Japanese stuff (KYB on a BMW; not going to do that. So, that leaves you with Boge/Sachs struts in my view. Replace your strut mount in the process.

You mess with anything (control arms, tie rods, strut) that mounts to the wheel hub assembly and you're going to need an alignment. Here in the states, BMW cost $130 to $150 w/o Sport suspension, with it ($230 - $299).

It's your call, there are plenty of folks on this forum that will state that KYB or Bilstein is the best way to go.

I'm not sure why they said to stick with OEM, but we can get you coilovers and the ride is awesome. OEM suspension parts are expensive as well. Let me know if I can help you out.
