Hi,
I have a 2005 E60 530 diesel Steptronic. I have noticed that, when I decelarate, my rev counter becomes slightly erratic in that it "hunts" between +/- 1200 - 1500 RPM. This also is accompanied by a feeling as if the accelerator is applied and left, applied and left. The shift is then in the D - mode. When I move it over to DS, this is less obvious and when placed in M6, it does the same as if in D. What can cause this? I have tried the thirty second gearbox reset, but to no avail. I should perhaps also mention that the 'box sometimes does not select the sixth gear after accelerating to about 100 KPH and I would then have to manually shift it to the sixth gear. The gear changes are otherwise very smooth and almost unobtrusive. Can anyone supply me with a cure?
Regards!
Marius

I have a similar but less severe version of your problem with the pulsing, nobody has yet offered a sollution, feels like the torque converter kicking in and out at low steady speeds, akin to a manual having its clutch dipped in and out, at a steady speed the RPM sometimes flicks up and down a 100rpm or so, I actually have a vid here which I may upload.
In DS mode afaik it only uses 1-5, and not 6th unless you go into M mode, don't quote me on that tho.

This happens to me from time to time, usually when cruising after a period of in town start-and-stop driving. I understand it is the particulate filter cleaning itself out. Do a search on the particulate filter and how it works.

Here is a thread somewhere about similar problems. Cause was the mechatronics unit in the gearbox, some solenoids were blown and valves stuck halfway open.
I got the same problem but I have to wait until next month to solve it due holidays.
