There is another thread floating around talking about the same thing. It is happening to a lot of people, and it seems to be happening to the heated steering wheel especially. I have an 06 530, and I have been trying to get it replaced. They basically told me it's not covered, and believe me, I have tried. But, every dealer is different, so you never know. I am also interested to see if you find a solution. I'm leaning towards having the wheel recovered, which I think will cost me a few hundred bucks, but it will probably solve the problem once and for all.

Its a bummer.

I have a 2007 CPO 550. I have noticed that surface on portions of the face of the steering wheel has a very thin rubber veneer / treatment. This is starting to peel and flake off. On a car that is only 2 years old this seems like a "defective" finish to me. Have others experienced this? Was the dealer willing to fix it? Is this covered on the bumper to bumper warrantee?

Thanks....
Had the same problem after 12 months, replaced under warrantee with no problems.

My 530 has the same issue but is out of warranty. Has anyone removed the peeling plastic paint with a solvent or some other way? I'd be keen on stripping it all off - looks terrible.

Secondly, how do you remove the plastic fascia on the sport steering wheel and the window controls? Does anyone know the trick to this?

Had my steering wheel replaced last month because the leather was starting to peel slightly. Also having the trim around the start button replaced tomorrow as the laquer is wearing on the plastic. Been no quible about any of it they just order the bits in and replace them.
