Sunroof glass EXPLODED!
Was driving down the freeway with the sunroof open and the glass literally exploded for currently an unknown reason! Has this happened to anyone else, if so what kind of costs were involved to fix?

Well that sucks! When I had my sunroof replaced under warranty, I asked how much it would have cost without the warranty. They said it would have been in the neighborhood of $3000.00 but that was for replacing the entire assembly but removing the interior was a lot of labor.

This has been one of those anamolies that no one has an answer to. I haven't heard of this happening on an E60, but over on the E90 forum, this has happened to quite a few members.

Hmmm - the moonroof is tempered glass so an impact or sudden stress can cause it to "shatter". Perhaps the explosive noise you heard was whatever may have struck the glass to cause the breakage. In any case, with that much glass overhead, the event must have been pretty scary!! Good thing you didn't lose control of the car and have something worse happen.
Maybe your auto insurance comprehensive coverage will pay for the replacement glass work??

I do remember earlier in tha day ( four hours before it exploded ) I was driving pretty hard on some mountain twisties and bottoming out on an un-seen dip in the road. That could of sent a jolt through the car weakening and stressing the tempered glass.

Insurance should cover this (Tell them road debris/rock hit it to be on the safe side), and with 0 dollar window deducatable in many states you might not even have to pay your normal deducatable amount.

Sucks my insurance will allow the zero dollar deductable only if it was a rock chip or something of that nature where it could be repaired.
