I am looking for the information of sunroof drain holes in 2005 E60 sedan; where are they and how to test them to check whether they are clogged or not ?

Thanks,

Haven't had any experience with the E60's, but we have an E38 that started leaking water into the headliner and pillars. There were four drain holes, one in each corner. The front two are the ones that usually clog. There is also a plastic floater that basically detects the water level. Ended up snaking the front right hole to clear the line. Damn thing runs down to the tire well.

I was wondering the same thing, the digram doesnt show all the spots, i guess i will have to look with a flash light. I dont want to inspect my drains so i dont get the headliner problem.

They are easy to find. This has been discussed over and over... There are multiple threads describing in detail where to find them...

The front drains are directly below your front door upper henge. They are black tubes, you cant miss them. The rear ones are up under the car on each side, just behind the rear wheels. On the left you can access the drain behind your exhaust muffler. On the right you have to remove the plastic panel. The rear drains have the tips that look like "+".

Do a quick test of them by opening your sunroof all the way and pour a small amount of water in each corner, one at a time. You have to pour it in the outer track. You should instantly see the water start to drip on the ground below the drain. If not, they are clogged.

My problem is not at the drains, it is actually the sunroof cartridge separating from the base (where the white part meets the black metal base. Unfortunately the only fix is to remove the whole headliner, the whole sunroof and apply a sealant at the joints. Big job and a costly repair. I can never go through a car wash again (may not be such a bad thing) without have a major waterfall in my back seat.

These are the drains I tested (rear passenger side corner)Sunroof drain holes-2012-01-24-09.00.16.jpg

Thanks for the clear pictures of the rear sunroof drain. From your pictures, the white color box/container collects all the water from sunroof and drain them to the rear wheel area ?

I just did the test and everything is a ok. The water drips from the middle of the door jam out to the ground for the front.
