Summer time starts today here in the UK. My cheap Sony bedside clock has a sumer/winter button, but my expensive BMW does not. If I change the time in my car by one hour, the seconds will also change.

A summer/winter option in the time setting would be useful, or maybe and advance/retard by one hour option which would also be useful when crossing time zones.

I've never quite understood why BMW have failed to add a signal updated clock, which maintains perfect time and changes with Daylight Saving.

There are many examples of 'cheap' cars which do this transparently.

To add insult to injury, BMW adds a facility to sound a beep on-the-hour, just to remind you that the clock is wrong on a regular basis.

This really is a good example of the addage "spoiling the ship for a ha'peth of tar".

I agree. What are the chances that when they do introduce it, they will make it compulsory that one has to take it into the dealer to activate it (like evertying else)....

It'd be easier for them to simply use the time signal from the GPS satellites...

Of course, the atomic clock doesn't know what time zone you're in...

perhaps the geniuses who solved that whole turn signal switch problem that we all dealt with for 50 years can put a man on it....

I'm really confused ... when I optioned up my 530xi I specified code "ACR"*

This flawlessly updates my clock to DST with correct time zone.

"ACR"* = Anatomic Clock Re-setter

Indeed. And, one digit to the right is your AAI, or Automatic Asshole Indicator. No need for the string as no one seems to forget to deploy this device.
