On my way to work Sat morning at 5:30 am heading south on I-680 before the Benicia Bridge this turkey walks out on to the freeway and stops in the middle of the fast lane. All I could do was center the car over it. As I passed by I saw a cloud a feathers in the rear view mirror. I thought it went flying the other way. When I arrived at work to check the damage her head was sticking out of the lower grill. As you can see in the last pic her wing span as wide as the front of the car. Must have weighted about 10#.
The tranny cooler is bent and the AC condensor took a pretty good hit as it bent on of the passes. No leaks on anything but feathers are all over the place. Lower part of the bumper is all cracked up. The front bumper will need to be replaced. I guess its time to upgrade to a Mtech.

Sorry about the car and for the bird.
Two more upsides:
1. Dinner is served.
2. We now have a substitute for that "deer in the BMW engine compartment" post that pops up every three months.
Enjoy the M-tech.

Here's what the body of a low flying crane does to the windshield of an X5 at highway speeds. We were coming back from Fort Lauderdale, about 60 miles south of Orlando. Beautiful species -- we felt really bad for it.
The good news was that we had a very small crack in the far right side that had been there for two years, so the completely free replacement, per the law here in Florida, and even performed at our home in the garage, was definitely a bonus.

The road was wet and I knew if I would have tried to avoid hitting it by swerving I would have spun out and not been so lucky so I just held my speed and held on. I did not even feel any impact just the cloud of feather.
