I got taken by a Subaru WRX (whatever) last night. The guy knew how to drive. The line on every corner was perfect. I had the power to stay with him, just not the guts (or stupidity) to pass him in the dark with other cars on the road. My runflats also slid on some corners and a small bump set the DSC off.
For those Los Angelinos he first passed me north bound on Sepulveda at the Getty Center. I lost him on the downhill twisties after the tunnel.
The point I'm making is that the 545 with runflats needs good pavement to excel.

Not unexpected. The WRX is a rally car at heart! It's made for those twisties you mentioned. The runflats do have that behaviour. The hard sidewalls are made with something else in mind. A good 18",19" or 20" setup with non RFT performance tires are better for those conditions. My 17" non RFT winter setup is already pretty good in the corners. Imagine.
Sounds like the conditions were not ideal anyway to give it 100% !!

Not to mention that the Subies, being turbocharged, are quite easy to, and often are, modified.
See link: Subaru STi @ Almost 400hp **at the WHEELS**
Not to mention that those suckers are lighter and are AWD.
BTW, keep the racing off of the street. Not for you, but for ME!

WRXs aren't too special
However they can be easily modded as realtyman said. Stock they have mad understeer...but the STi is a slightly different story. I think the runflats are more of a convenience feature than performance-oriented thing. You don't see M cars have it.

I've found this bump effect too, once got me really worried as it triggered the electronic nanny whilst i was overtaking and cut some power.
Take some consolation in the fact that on smoother straighter roads (motorway slip roads being a good example) the 545i will take a standard subaru
