I drove around for 3 weeks before takin my car 2 the dealer to find out what this meant. I hadn't been paying much attention to the check engine light and looked at the dash 2 miles from the dealership and it was off! I took it in anyways because my buddy works as a mechanic there. He plugged it up and turns out it was a loose gas cap. Fine. Well I've been sure to always tighten it but it came back on again. Anyone else have this lose gas cap problem? Am I over fiilling it?

Happened to me with another car. I simply bought a new gas cap and the problem went away.

Improper closing of gas cap is a common check engine light signal. It's the FIRST thing to check when the light shows!

Been there ... done that! Fortunately in the USA emissions are covered for a longer time/miles than the 4yrs/50K miles.
