Based on your guys opinion I may go this route instead of dealing with installing a single oversized drain plug.

They sell these and seems like it would work. What do you guys think?

I'm scared of putting this on and having $50 in oil leak out and potentially having issues.

Never used one. I think maybe your answering your own question. Tap the hole and put in a bigger plug for your own piece of mind.

Over sized plugs do work sometimes, we used them at my shop on many cars. Just make sure you don't over tighten it, just get it snug.

but wouldn't you have to rethread it to fit the oversize plug.

Stripped oil pan, help!!-download.jpg

Just remember that with this style plug, any future oil drains will mean you cannot un-thread the plug completely to drain and if you do the nut will be lost in the pan.

Yeah that's what i figured, my next step would be a heli coil which is a little more guaranteed!

On the website they have instructions detailing how to remove this. Seems pretty basic.

So I'm gathering you all will think it should work!

Over sized threads and threadserts (or timeserts) work well, I do not like helicoils for drain plugs. There is normally plenty of meat to drill and thread a aluminum pan.

You seem like you have some experience, so if i were to buy a self tapping single oversize drain plug that would do the trick?
