Maybe I was wrong earlier. Given your reset problems, may it was the Bermuda Triangle that appeared.

I used the same key. It was after church service, I started the car, and the settings were gone. I think it might be a combination of things that started when I started the car the first time in the morning to go to church. The Idrive screen was very dimmed, but the stations was there. I tried turning the lights on, off, auto, but the Idrive screen remain dimmed. After church service, the Idrive was back to normal brightness, but all the stations gone.
Maybe your key memory somehow was erased. Did you reprogram everything and, if so, has it remained?

Yes, I reprogrammed everything, and so far, it sticks. Could it be a bad or weak battery in the key. Does anyone know if the key takes a regular battery or does it recharge everytime you stick in the ignition?

It recharges every time you use it and as far as I know, you cannot replace the rechargeable battery. BMW says that using a key once a year is enough to keep it charged.

Hopefully, your problem was just a one-time loss of key memory

The screen will be dim whenever temperature is below a certain level. I can search a thread where I asked this question, and got many confirmations.

If by design that it dims by certain temperature, what is the reason behind it?

It isn't by design. It's an LCD display and just reacts this way when it's very cold. I think I even read somewhere that there is a heater built into it so that it reacts a little more quickly under these circumstances.

Thank you, all, for the info. Having this forum makes the bimmer more enjoyable in good and in bad times.
