Strange clanking sound from the center console

My Ride: 2004 530i, Silver Gray, Premium Pkg, Cold Weather package, Black Leather seats with lumbar support, Poplar wood finish.
Mods: M6 19" wheels with 245/35/19 Front Tires 275/30/19 Rear Tires, K&N Filter, H&R Sway bars, Magnaflow Muffler, Sprint Booster, Black front grill, M-tech front bumper, Debadged
There is this strange erratic sound in my 04'530 thats driving me mad!
It's like two empty bottles or two hollow steel pipes clanking when I go over a bump or close a door..AND its intermittent..happens sometimes and not others. It seems to be coming from under the center console/gearbox but it's hard to tell. It also stops when I hit the freeway or hit speed.
My first reaction was that maybe its the exhaust pipes and that a hanger is loose, so the pipes clank. Got the car up on a list yesterday and had the SA check the exhaust...all good and sturdy. When the SA got into the car and closed the door he (luckily) heard the sound but after that it never came back. So I am back without a solution and waiting for it to happen again

My Ride: 2004 545, Sport Package, Steptronic, NAV, L7, PDC, Sunshades, Titanium Gray over Black, Bluetooth
Can you verify that it is coming from the center console? If not, check the sunroof area. Mine made the same noise at the same times as you. They had to change out the sunroof casette. Open your sunroof, jam your hand in there (wedge between the metal and glass) and see if that helps.

I think you may be right. I didnt get the noise today but played with the sunroof and I was able to replicate a similar sound! I am out of warranty so I am not sure I want to change anything if I dont have to.
Do you know what it took to change th sunroof cassette and what happens if I dont change it (except this sound)?
