Hello,

so on Friday we had some nice weather here in Chicago with winds up to 70mph. It happened that I was driving on the highway and this wind gust carrying all imaginable garbage - stones, tree branches, tree leaves etc - went over the highway and my car

I washed my car today and guess what - I have quite a few paint chips (all the way to the metal), chips in the windshield, some clear coat burns (not sure about the name).

so the question:

did anyone get into situation like this before? Did the insurance cover the damage? I am afraid that as the damage is not big insurance will not cover anything...what should I tell my agent?
BTW, I managed to take a few seconds video during this incident with my phone, so I have a proof that all these paint chips are new....

You can make a claim. It will go towards your deductible (if you have one). It should not raise your premiums as it is storm related, make sure its coded that way. I had hail damage on a previous and it came out To 3200 - my 750 deductible. No ding on my claim history. I'd get an estimate up front and see what it all entails and if its cheaper just out of pocket do it that way. My 2 cents.

so this damage would go under comprehensive insurance part?

BTW, what shop do I take it in? Glass? Paint shop?

Yep, it would be comp. Body shop would do it. better to take it to one that does German cars. Their usually around the dealers and get a bunch of referrals. Plus, they get the paint much better matched.

I've heard of raining cats & dogs, but trees and stones? Your video might be useful to support the insurance claim so that they don't mark it down to vandalism affecting your no claims. Good luck

Sounds like you had a small tornado? WOW!!!
Be careful claiming your vehicle it will void the CPO if it
has one?
Get an estimate from someone you trust where you will be paying
not insurance claim...should be less too pay!

GOOD LUCK

Luckily for me I call in sick that day(I was really sick). Yes, we did get some pretty strong storms that day. As for damage on your car, I suggest that you get an estimate from a shop of your choice and gauge from the estimate if it is worth claiming it from your insurance.

That storm was nuts. I saw the windows fall off the Sears [Willis] Tower from my office.
