I'd get a respray and then get some of that clear 3M film installed to protect the paint. Its expensive but worth it

If 3M is real expensive, then why not just stick to using the car as per normal and every two to three years, just get the bumper and bonnet resprayed? I would go down that route cause I am sure 3M protective film would still allow stone chips to appear if the hit is hard and sharp enough. All you need to do is find yourself a good and reputable bodyshop. I have one in Nottingham so thats why I prefer to just respray.

3M would be great on a brand new car just out of the dealer. When I picked my car up, it already had 6 months of motorway tailgaiting. (now what was that they saw about BMW drivers... )

cheers

It doesn't help that BMW has THE, WORST, PAINT, EVER. Best cars, worst paint jobs? Go figure. BMW is the king of orange peel.

I find the same problem. Not sure what it is but this E60 sure picks up stone chips easily. And yes, anything that brushes lightly along the sides leave a mark. I too polish it a lot but that said, I suspect the paint or laquer used is too thin these days. Now I realise why white is back in fashion.

cheers

sometimes it is better that way. you are better planning on getting it done, but never getting a quote. it is like not going to the doctor when you think you could have an STD because you would rather not know...
