I have no completed my stereo upgrade and even the local BMW dealer believe the sound quality is better than the L7.

I did the following:

1. 12 inch JL Audio Sub in enclosure
2. 250/1 JL Amp dedicated to the Sub in the trunk mid range of JL line with dual voice coils
3. 2 pair of 234is 4 inch component speakers..installed in door and rear decklid.
4. kept the "bass shakers" underneath the driver and passenger hooked-up

The sound quality is awsesome. More base than the L7 system with better, more well defined sound quality

cost for parts:

$750 purchasing all parts via ebay. Labor $100

Can you also post some pics of the sub to show how it's set up?
