My steptronic shifts a little jerky when it's cold, especially in low gears. After the car is completely warmed up, it shifts much smoother (almost un-noticeable). I have CIP 20.01
Is this normal?

I have had the same problem on my 550 since delivery 1 year ago. I notice it even when it is warm outside but it is worse the colder it gets.
I have had cip 19,20,21 and now 23. My dealer admits there is a problem but BMW considers it to be "an acceptable condition".
Good luck with your situation. If you come up with a solution keep us posted.

Have not noticed this behavior in mine. No difference from start up to hot, hot. Not too cold here but do take car to Carolinas now and then in under 20 degree wx and no difference noted there either.

The Transmission has several modes, 4 I think.
Extreme sport, Sport, Economy, Extreme economy, I'm not sure of the exact names but along the lines of what I've listed.
When the car is first started the transmission runs in the first two modes until is it warmed up. This could account for the shifting you experience.

The car i know it has a program that helps for a faster warm-up but i don't know if that affects the changing speed by the gearbox, only the revs when temperature drops below a certain level. That's pretty much it.

Recently I had a 06 325 as a loaner. It doesn't have harsh shift when cold (in the morning). Pretty much no difference between cold and warm. 06 325 has the same trannsmission and engine as 525.
I wonder if I should bring it to the dealer and I am not sure if they can find anything...

this is the first time in some years we have got cold weather in my country,, i am also experinceing this in the first few minutes of driving..
its more noticeable if your reving at about 3k rpms, at low 2k it doesnt seem to be noticeable, its a little anoying because we got used to the super smooth steptronic trasmission giving excelent shifts...

530d with 65000km, smooth shift, hot or cold.
All I can think of is that your adaptive setting are on sport.
Mind you, I never get my engine up to 3000rpm when cold.
Alex
