STEERING WHEEL QUESTION

Is it normal for a 2006 550i steering wheel to feel loose. i brought my car in the shop today and as of right now im driving a 328i. The steering wheels feels way more stiff and safe driving it then my 550i. Is it normal or is it my car??

Does your 550 have active steering? The 328 for sure doesnt.... at speed the 550 steering should be as "tight" if not "tighter"

My Ride: 2004 BMW 545i Sport Package, Titanium Gray II Metallic, Wheel Style 124
i complained about loose steering wheel and and poor turning radius to my dealer i managed to go on a ride along with the shop foreman and they said steering was normal... even when i told the foreman to take my car for the weekend and drive it at high speed , the car feels like a boat . I posted numerous post on this forum since december and no one was of good help.
i recently got new tired and ALIGNMENT at a Independent BMW shop and Problem was fixed. No more loose steering! Car has never felt so responsive
i accidentally came across a very useful link that will explain the Alignment
when i read this on tirerack website i scratched my head and wonder why the shop foreman did not suggest an alignment "Caster angle settings allow the vehicle manufacturer to balance steering effort, high speed stability and front end cornering effectiveness".
i recently got new tired and ALIGNMENT at a Independent BMW shop and Problem was fixed. No more loose steering! Car has never felt so responsive

My 550 does not have active steering. The steering wheel is never ever loose. It is tight and with the small radius sport steering wheel, takes some effort to turn. If it suddenly felt loose, I would think that there was a problem.

I have felt the same way about my 545i when I drove 3 series loaner. My car has active steering. I don't think 5 series steering is loose but compared to 3 series steering it is definitely lighter. 3 series steering is heavier and requires more effort to turn. In comparison, 7 series steering feels even lighter than 5 series. Ultimately, steering feels heaviest in the 3 series, then 5 series, then 7 series. This makes sense as the car gets bigger and more luxurious, they tend to lose sportiness and focus more on comfort and luxury. Judging from my experience, the steering on your 5 series is normal.
