Lately when I am about to start the car the steering wheel starts moving down and there is a grinding / rattling noise coming from the column area. What could this be? Is there a simple fix? Thanks in advance.

Lol I guess we are the only two that have experienced this. I'm about to go pull my steering column apart and I will let you know what I come up with.

Try using some armorall or F21 or what not on the leather/pleather part covering the steering wheel. Get a can of spray white grease and try it if you're diassembling it.

Cool. Im going to try this soon. Mine grinds on hot days only... makes sense that the viscosity deteriorates with the extra heat....

That is fantastic news. Thanks for the tip. Anything special about taking the column apart. Never played with that before.

When you take the screw out of the bottom of the column surround make sure the little black square part that the screw threads into doesn't fall out once you pull the surround off. Mine fell out and I didn't even know til I had already put everything back together. You'll need a flashlight also to see the lifting mechanism or whatever its called. Everything else is pretty straight forward. Day 2 and no noise =)

Had the same problem and the dealer determined that it was related to the airbag rubbing against something. They replaced the airbag and the problem was solved.
