Default Steering wheel has trouble adjusting downwards

Not certain what is wrong with my steering wheel adjustment.

It adjusts upwards no problem and always returns to the top position when turning the car off.

When I turn the car on, it adjusts downward but doesn't go all the way down. If I move the switch to the downward position a few times, it will travel downwards a little further. Sometimes I need to do this two or three times to find the ultimate low position (which still doesn't feel as low as it could go).

The adjuster mechanism doesn't make any funny noises when trying to get the wheel to go down further - it only makes a creaking noise when returning to the top position. Adjusting the wheel in the normal operating range doesn't make any funny noises.

Pulling down on the wheel while pressing the switch vs only using the switch doesn't seem to make any difference.

Do I have an issue with the worm gear and washer similar to this post here or is something else going on? https://www.bimmerfest.com/threads/s....535918/page-7
