Steering wheel dash sign & car won't start

My Ride: White/Tan, Nav, comfort seats, sport steering wheels, sport suspension, active steering, rear window shades, rear shade, heated seats
Model Year: '07-530i
Steering wheel dash sign & car won't start
Hello All,
Sat it and pushed the start button and nothing happened. The music was going on and off but the rest of the dash was quite. Tried pushing the start button once again and nothing.
The dash showed the steering with a lock sign yet I can move the sterring from side to side.
Pushed the key fob in the ignition and nothing happened. Pushed it out and pushed it back in and back out and finally the car started when i pushed the start button.
Happened again in the evening with a similar scenerio.
I am sure the car does not have the active steering.
The battery is new BMW which they charged my $500 and yes I know
Very few times I have been taken in by these dealers and that was one of those occassions.
Please advice?
