Is anything changed on the steering wheel interface to collumn before and after 09/2005?

Is it possible to use a 2006 steering wheel (#1 in realoem) on a 07/2004 build car?
Airbag and everything else is left untouched from the old steering wheel.

Reason for the change is to get a new leather grip. The old one is shiny and worn.

Yes some kind of notch or something similar like that on the back of the steering wheel hub has changed.

Due to that you'll not going to be able to fit '06 steering wheel into your '04 directly.

Allright, but with a slight modification by drilling a hole or similar will solve the issue then I guess!?

It could be, I couldn't remember which year has hole & which year has the metal notch, if you search you'll find a member that did modified the steering wheel but not sure same case as you or the other way around older steering wheel to newer car.

The E60 did get a mayor safety "facelift" from somewhere in the 11/04 production!
From only 3 EuroNCAP stars to 4.
Note that not all '05 models have it.

Also the doors and the dashboard where modified and some new programming was made to the airbags.
(Seems that the steering wheel hardware was also updated).

The LCI is now a 5 star car says BMW Nordic!

It?s nice to have a neat tool shop in the garage

Steering wheel is in place.

The operation is not a recomended DIY, get the correct steering wheel if you can!
Both front and rear side of the steering wheel needs excessive modifications. Material build up etc.
