Default Steering wheel angle sensor

I have an 05 530i that is only driven for about 2500mi a year. I have a steering wheel fault and have been trying to clear it (by cleaning and reinitializing). Other than replacing the part can this be an alignment issue. It has been almost 8 years since I have had one done

Isn't the SAS on E60 optical? I did a fix on an E53 by rebuilding the wipers on the resistance tracks and that worked for me.

No I have the older version so it's analog. I have taken it out and cleaned it and still getting the intermittent error. I'm thinking if it was bad I would always have the light on unless it's just on the way out. I had it replaced in 2012.

Do you have active front steering?

In the event you do, here's a BMW overview/training document.

Rather than re-type and re-do pictures here, this is what I did on my E53: https://xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-forums/...r-fix-0-a.html

Wow yours was pretty damaged. When I took mine apart it looked fairly good. It was just real dirty. The one thing I didnt do was take the disc off. I will do that and clean everything up with some Hosa D5S-6 and report back
