Thumbs up

Anyone know what this is? I was just about to drive out to the Island, when this warning flashed on my Idrive. It said I should stop the vehicle carefully. I drove home easy and parked it. Luckily I have my E36 M as a spare. What am I looking at as far as the problem and possible repair??

I have had that in very cold weather. My unhelpful answer to you is that if you re-start the car, it usually goes away. I assume the dire warning is because loss of power steering can be dangerous; but mine just seems to fix itself. As I say, it seems to have come up in cold weather, but it goes away.

Its strange, cuz the weather was 74 degrees yesterday in NY. I didnt restart the car since then. I will see what happens after work tonight.

I, too, got that warning but in cold weather. The fluid level was low. Once I topped it off I have not had the warning return since. I believe it takes Pentosin CHF-11S which I could not find in any auto parts store locally and had to order.

you can reset the light if there isnt anything wrong with the asc unit by:

1. Turn the car on
2. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the left then back Center
3. Turn the steering wheel all the way to the right then back center
4. Turn the car off
5. Turn the car back on

Light should go off, if not repeat, if that doesnt work it could be the fluid if the fluid isnt low then then you want to get it checked, but you just loose the active steering, you can drive the car just fine. Thanks

Weird, Samething happened to me a couple of days ago. It was about 55 F, coldest its being in San Antonio in a long time.
Active Steering went out, turned on the car today, and no warning.

The fluid used is Pentosin CHF-11S. I could not find it on the shelf at any of my local auto aprts stores and had to order through Amazon.com. Whether other hydraulic fluids would be acceptable I couldn't say.
