Anyone had this problem? Usually comes on very cold days, car drives fine, then, if especially I don't warm her up well, I make a sharp turn, or an abrupt stop, I get:
"Steering malfunction: Possible hazard from fluid loss in steering or suspension hydraulic system"
I turn the ignition off, turn it back on, and error goes away. Then again, abrupt stop, sharp turn, comes on again...but not always.
Anyone had this before? I have BMW hydraulic fluid in a green tin continer, where do I top it off?
thanx.

Had the same problem a couple weeks ago, received warning messages almost every morning. Took it to my mechanic, and he top off the steering fluid, haven?t seen the problem since.

i had this problem 4 years ago when i bought the car, they seemed to have replaced some parts because they found a leak and made me purchase a $30 bottle of CHF oil, which i kept.
So I did top it off today, it was nearly empty, and i've had no problems all day. thanx for the tip

Timely thread.
I had this problem today as well. "Precious" had sat at the airport for 2 days. Since this happened just after having some rather expensive front end suspension work done, I was suspicious that they screwed something up.
Call the dealer who mentioned that low fluid is almost the only time he's seen this. And this thread confirms it as a cause.
Thanks again e60forum.
Cheers

Had this happen to me today. I didn't read this thread but had a feeling it was the power steering. Went and bought the CHF 11S myself for $25 and topped it off my self. Problem solved!
