Default Steering Malfunction

Hi to all!
The steering malfunction was intermittently coming on depending on the weather outside
. When I turn on the engine the malfunction will come on right away, but when the car was fully warmed up, the malfunction will be gone when you turned off the engine and start it again. On another note when it is warm outside the malfunction will not appear at all. Thank you!

I second HF - top off the hydraulic fluid. It's at the min. level and contracts when cold triggering the fault warning.

Turn on the car. Rotate the steering wheel all the way to the left. Then rotate it all the way to the right. Turn it back to the normal position and turn the car off. This should fix the problem. This happens to me when the car is parked for a few days without being driven (usually on an uneven surface.)

This message was the first indication that my alternator / voltage regulator was failing in my 2005 545 with around 68000 miles on it. If you continue to get this message I would seriously consider the alternator as the cause. It's a common problem, search to find more details.
