Hi has anyone of you experienced a knocking sound in the steering column of their E60 when making a turn? Dealer says it could be a steering bush, want to hear peoples experiences before we disassemble the thing.

This is a well documented problem with the Active Steering. If the dealer offers to fix it then by all means let them fix it.

I dont have active steering in mine and got this problem. The steering rack needed to be lubed. No problems since that was done.

If you have the sport package then you have active steering. Also, take a look in your engine room. There should be a black module to the left with a bunch of thin metal pipes running to it if it has a sticker on it that says Active Steering then you have it.

So how is it fixed? I have a 2007 550i with active steering (sport package) and it sounds like rubbing of some kind when turning.

Lubeication will fix it For a while but it will probably return... If your still under warranty now is the time to got to your BMW dealer and start to bitch and moan around. This strategy worked for me.
