Steamed up headlights
Hi
I recently took my 12 month old 530D into the dealer as the headlights had begun to steam up on the inside after being driven in heavy rain. I got the car back and the dealer told me that they had resealed the headlights, but however that a certain amount of condensation in the headlights was normal. Has anyone else experienced this? Is it normal?

I am inclined not to believe this
. if air cannot go inside the lights there will be no condensation!!!

from my experience talking to 2 dealers, condensation inside the headlights is normal and should eventually go away. BUT, if there's water droplets inside the housing, then they need to swap it out.
+1, when I picked up my new 535 several weeks ago there was a bit of condensation in both lenses. I asked about it and was told some is OK but a lot is not. I belive it was from the PDC work cleaning under the hood. They have not fogged up since and I was in heavy rain all this weekend with no problems. Also, I assume these headlight housing are not fully sealed, i.e., they are vented to outside air. All my other cars with headlight housing have been vented. Most have a rubbber tube near the lower rear housing area.

The headlights are a sealed unit which can't be opened by you, your dealer, nor by BMW without breaking it.
The bulbs create too much heat, so the housings have openings, so that the heat can get out.
Therefore, condensation is normal, up to a certain amount and time.
