It's cold and wet in the Northeast today. I drove 15 minutes to work and after parking and shutting down my car I noticed a significant amount of steam (didn't smell like smoke) coming from my grill. I opened to hood but didn't see anything strange. This went on for a few minutes and appears to have stopped.

Has anyone seen this before? I'm thinking it's just from the cold and the moisture but I'm not sure.

Happens w/ my 545 alot. I think it's water on the shielding atop the fan that

heats up into steam.

Thanks. That's very reassuring. Once again e60.net comes through for me.

The only time I've seen steam coming out of the grille was the the day before I had to have my steering rack replaced.
Hopefully it's not the same for you.
This issue seemed to affect a limited number of 545's & 645's built around March of '04. I was just 'lucky' I guess.

Which issue the steam or the steering rack?

Steering Rack! There was evidently a bad casting in the aluminum around my production date. Only affected 545 and 645's as far as I know. I have't heard of any after May of '04. Seems as though they fixed the problem.

Hey mine did that the other morning, but had a strange burning smell with it. I checked under the hood, but couldnt see anything. After letting it cool, I haven't noticed it since.

My car only has about 500 miles so I fgured it must have been something on the engine burning off. Maybe some type of coating or sealant?

I did wash the car the day before, but don't see how that could have caused anything like this.
