Starter cranks for a long long time

My Ride: 2008 Sapphire Black on Black M5 - loaded sans soft close doors
Ok, the car is only a couple of days old and has less than 50 miles and really has only been driven twice.
But....
The day I brought the car home, about 3 hours later, I went to start it (car has comfort access) and it cranked for a long long time before it finally caught. Maybe 7-10 seconds? Then it finally caught, stumbled a little and then evened out.
The next day I drove the car all was fine - until the same thing happened, about 2 hours after getting the car home, I went to re-start it and this time it cranked for maybe 5 seconds before catching and starting.
Anyone else have anything like this?

Nope, mine always catches on the first go around. The proper procedure is not to touch the accelerator pedal during the cranking cycle. Just get in cold and momentarily touch the start position, either with the key or the button. If the starter keeps cranking after you have released it, take her to the dealer.

Did you push the throttle while starting?

Foot on brake, pressed start/stop button - that was it. The first time I had my cousin with me -fortunately he is only 15 and didn't realize how close my car was to not starting. That would have been really, really, REALLY embarrasing.

Something doesn't sound right. Mine usually turns over very quickly (a few cranks) but once in a blue moon it will take an extra second or two at the most...

Your car needs a doctor!
Only if hell freezes over (like -23 C or -10 F)
one should push the throttle gently while starting.

Agreed, usually only needs to crank for about 1 second. Do you think it's the cold temperatures?

I'm going to wait to drive it a bit more and see if the problem continues to occur. It kills me to think the car has a problem this early on - the darn thing is not even dirty yet!
Of note, my garage is about 35-40 degrees - so I don't think it is a weather issue.
