I've had my car now for just over 6 months and am fed up with the "auto" mode on my standard air conditioning system not adjusting the fan speed according to temperature. I have to turn it up and down manually for more or less air flow.

I searched the forum and found the following threads, the latter of which seems to indicate that the problem can now be fixed with a software upgrade. The threads go from early 2004 up to April 2005 which are applicable to my car (built in November 2003), and I presume that some of the uncertainty over whether a car without Nav can be updated or not has now been bottomed out.

Can anyone shed any more recent light on whether their early build E60's with standard air con and no Nav have been upgraded for the fan speed to adjust automatically when Auto is selected?

If so, is it simply a case of asking the dealer to update the software to fix it when I next book it in for a service?

There's also mention of two stage brake lights which are fixed with an upgrade too. Is this the Emergency Brake Assist feature which lights up the tail light bulbs as well when you brake real hard to give more pronounced warning to the vehicle behind that you are stopping more suddenly?).

Thanks

Kev525,

The "auto" mode will actually work if you have newer versions of the software installed. Think BMW finally sorted out the software for that issue in mid 2004.

As for the Brake Force Display, check this post out.

Brake Force Display

I raised it a while ago but finally had it sorted out.

Cheers

Mine is the same age as yours, standard A/C and no NAV. Just a software update WILL fix it. (Mine was fixed way back with about v13 of the software... They're at v21 now I believe)

My software was updated in March when my ipod was installed - the climate control operates better - but not as well as in my e46 - which reacted better to solar gain (ie the feeling that you are hot because of the sun on your skin despite being surround by cool air).

Most of the BMW tis stuff on the forum is american, which your delear will tell you does not apply in the UK.

Since your still under warranty I'd just book it in with an AC fault and suggest it could be the software.

They will probably give you some bullshit about paying for the ac to be serviced (which is not included in the vehicle service) - you should be able to swat that away easily though as you have not AGREED to service the ac as a condition of the warranty.

Good luck.

I have a brand new (6 week young) E60 with advanced aircon, but noticed when the car has been standing in plain sunshine, the aircon blows like hell to get it cooling - Opening the 4 windows, set the fan speed manually to a lowe speed and driving off to have wind cool down the car seems the most effective.

I have not found this option in the idrive to initiate this activity automatically
