Staggered or not staggered, that is the question

Sorry to be off topic here but for those who got the 19", do you guys ever regret about not getting 20".

I'm in the process of getting a new set of rims and tires but still undecided on the size. Read all the threads about the pros and cons of the 19" and 20" but would like to find out more before I pull the trigger.

I have no regrets about getting 19 instead of 20 wheels. In the great white north the roads are quite rough with potholes in the spring and I have no interest in "feeling the road" any more then I do with the 19's. There have been numerous posts about people blowing through 20's and wanting to go down to 19's.

i prefer 19 over 20. 20's are more prone to damsge from potholes, and may rub.
heck, after welding 3 of my 19" rims due to cracks, i was debating going to 18's even.

It all depends on whether your rims are staggered or not. If they're not, then keep the tires the same all around...at least then, you can rotate them to keep the treadwear more even. I've never been a fan of staggered tires on the same-sized rims...it just looks off, IMO.

I don't think you are going to notice the difference in turn in on a E60 on the street and the road. I don't think your going to push your 5er that hard in a corner where you will say, "Damn, I should not have gotten a staggered setup because that felt different" I could be wrong but I don't notice the turn in difference from my 245 winter set from my staggered summer but then again 18's/19's and different rubber so that could also affect the perception.

Has to be staggered. The 172 19" alloys run 275 on rears and 245 front. An Aston Martin V8 Vantage has 275 rears! Ok, slight size difference between the E60 oil burner and the beautiful AM. Staggered not only handles better, in my opinion, but also looks fantastic from the booty and side! I hear the new F10 M5 is to have 265's at the front. Yes, the front! 295's at the back? Or 315's like the beast that is the X6M?

By the way, well done Lewis in China!

The OEM staggered wheels comes with changes to the suspension, the sport package. Adding wider tires to the rear of the standard suspension car will create more understeer or what they call plowing. Not a good feel for a BMW. I would stick to the standard setup, as the car will handle better with the 245's than the 275's at the rear.

Staggered is always the right answer. Always.
