The temperature is getting much colder and a few days ago my '04 545i starts squealing from the dash (or so it sounds like it is coming from the dash). I hit the off button for my climate control and it seemingly went away. I waited a couple of minutes and hit the auto button and no squeal (life is good again!) Not quite, the sound came back but just briefly and went away on its own. I have noticed that my idle is flunctuating occasionally...does this sound like the auxillary water pump? If so, has anyone done a DIY on this? How hard was it to replace? How long did it take you?

Thanks!

I have the same sound coming from the dash only in cold weather<30 F. It stays on only at start up when the car is cold and lasts for about 5 seconds then never comes back on. I'm thinking it's the blower motor lack of lubrication when cold.

I started having a squealing motor coming from the center dash in hot weather. Pretty sure it's one of the blower motors, not the aux water pump or anything, and it is totally dependent on blower speed. Went away, waiting for its return so I can bring it in to the dealer - don't want to learn how to take an E60 dash apart.

Thanks! I asked the dealer what the cost would be to replace it and it is $800 +!

Based on what it takes to replace it might be worth it but right now I am going to hope that it goes away. It definitely does on the sub-30 degree days.

Let me know if anyone has been brave enough to replace this on their own and how it went.
