Hi,
Yesterday I noticed for the first time that my rear suspension is really squeaky. I hadn't noticed anything before.
It sounds like a really old spring bed under my car! I believe it is rear suspension, but not too sure. Haven't noticed anything under there.
Anyone have any ideas, or experienced anything similar?
2005 E60 530d.

Thanks,
Ross.

I have the same issue... noticed it first a couple of weeks ago.

As long as I keep the windows shut it doesn't bother me

I am due an oil service in 4000 miles so I will get the delaer to look at it then - if anyone has some ideas in the meantime please let us know!

check the struts for oil residue. if so, they are leaking and have gone dry, then squeek.
or it could be a rubber bushing on the control arm.

I checked the struts and no sign of oil residue.
Possibly the bushings but I haven't seen anything obvious yet. I need to get my car higher so I can have a better look!
I have figured out the creaking is coming from the rear passenger (left) side. Possibly around the control arm area.
Will get a better look to see if I can find it.
Thanks.

Looks like it's the ball joint, at lower rear of wheel.
Visible oil beside the ball joint. So looks like it needs replacing.
Thanks.

I got my rear ball joints replaced yesterday.
£70 for parts and £110 for labour, so £180 for both sides.
It is a common issue, and can happen more when the weather dries out a bit like it just has in Ireland, and the rubber and lubricant dries out.

Had the exact same issue.
The right rear side was squeaking and it was only noticeable with the windows down at low speed or getting in and out of the car.
Turns out it was the lower bushing.
For some whatever reason BMW calls it a "ball joint".
Looks like a bushing to me but whatever...

This is exactly the same problem that came up on my car. I'm actually surprised it lasted this long.

My mechanic called it a suspension knuckle. But it looks like a ball joint or bushing to me too.
They all seem to describe the same thing.

The “not so loud” Squeaky rear is usually the rear ballpoint...... a BMW feature"........LOL
I have had to replace mine both on the E39 and E60, I am getting good at it since I juryrigged me a rear ballpoint remover/installer.
