Good evening gentlemen.

First off, I understand that there are many posts already regarding this problem.

i already have spent good few hours to find the answer what exactly i need but no luck...

I have a 06 525i in canada with still warranty on but i'm not sure if i also have the maint. plan or not. If the maint. plan was something that i needed to purchase separately, then it's likely that i don't have one.

I've had this problem since i hit around 40,000km and now i'm running around less than 60,000kms.

this is just too annoying to hear that break squeaky sound while i have to drive around the downtown every single day with lots of people and lots of buildings.

i took it to the service department and they said that i got the "faulty break sensor."
and it cannot be fixed unless i purchase a new pad and it is not under warranty because it's over 20k kms or something.

when i tried to look up in this forum for the PUMA rules and the service bulletin, some of them sounded like the break sensor fault should be covered by warranty and some sounds like it needs to be fixed at my own cost!

What is the truth?

and Does anyone know which thread that has the official PUMA and service bulletin for the break squeaking?

Can anyone think that I can get those break replaced by warranty while i'm running 56,000kms?

Any inputs will be very helpful for me.

Thank you very much in advance.

This is only one i could found and i read some posts that there is more recent one.
Regarding the one i have below, there is no restriction of milege as it is due to geometric problem of break sensor.
but why is my dealership saying that there are restrictions?
"In case of a customer complaint, install improved brake pad wear sensor. Improved wear sensor geometry and material have been implemented in 01/06."
My vehicle is 06 but was made in 05...so i guess they have to replace my break system?? no??

SI B34 02 06
Brakes March 2006
Technical Service

This Service Information bulletin supersedes Service Measure B34 202 03 dated July 2003.

SUBJECT
Brake Squeals

MODEL
E60 (5 Series)

E61 (5 Series Sports Wagon)

E63 (6 Series Coupe)

E64 (6 Series Convertible)

SITUATION
Some customers may complain of a brake squeal noise during light brake application.

CAUSE

Wear sensor geometry (part of the sensor head protrudes beyond the edge of the brake disc).

Wear sensor material (the material combination of the wear sensor/brake disc can cause squealing noises under certain circumstances).

CORRECTION
In case of a customer complaint, install improved brake pad wear sensor. Improved wear sensor geometry and material have been implemented in 01/06.

PROCEDURE

Determine that the noise is not caused by random occurrence which can happen just before the brake pad wear limit is reached.

Replace the brake pad wear sensor and new brake pads only on the noisy axle.

I had SI B34 02 06 performed on my car at 37,000 miles while under warranty. Sensors and pads were replaced. Took care of the squeals, but messed up the brake system CBS ( condition based service) notifications, even though I was told it would not. As a result, I did not not get a brake service notification while under warranty and missed out on new rotors. I am still discussing the matter with the dealer and will likely get BMWNA involved.

I had rear o/s brake noise on my (07) 535d, it sounded like a bus stopping. Dealer replaced the rear pad sensor o/s.
But since having it done have noticed the noise coming back again.
Maybe they should have replaced the pad as well, typical warranty proceedure - only replace the faulty part but not the associated parts.

My dealer replaced one set which didn't correct the issue.

On the subsequent visit, they replaced all of them and the problem has been 100% fixed ever since. That was in the June 07 timeframe.

Dealer replaced my front pads and sensors last June at ~14K miles. Now at 27K and have had no more noises.

wow. i must have been smoking something while i didn't even notice myself doing it hahaha

thanks. i tried to correct it but couldn't see the edit button.

and also thank you very much for the input gentlemen.

it was really helpful.

now i need to call the dealership and have another big argument about it.

don't understand why they wouldn't replace it under warranty while it was due to geometry problem that came with the car.
