The sound cuts in an out. Its a high pitch squeaking noise. Sounds like its coming from around the drivetrain on the undercarriage. Anyone know what it is. What might cause it.

and now i am getting an increased emissions message. I looked closer and the noise seems to be coming from the front of the car. When i push on the gas the noise goes away. Has anyone had this problem?

Sounds like it could be a drive belt ... but I don't see that having a connection to the increased emissions. Before you destroy a catalytic converter or have other damage I'd get to a dealer or indy BMW service center to have it diagnosed and corrected.

Hmmmm not to necro a 2 year old thread but never did get a good answer to this one. I recently noticed this happening to my car last year. It was on/off and went away so I assumed it was something just making noise under the car at idle. Whenever I got on the gas at all it would go away and sometimes not even make a sound at idle.

Now, however, this happens at idle almost all the time and it's driving me nuts. Whistling / squeaking / tick sound almost at idle but anything above normal idle RPM speed and the sound is gone. No idea what it could be.

+1 check belt first. your increased emissions is most likely unrelated.
