In February I noticed my brakes squeaking and mentioned it to my dealer when my car was in for service then. The dealer took a look and said the brake sensors were causing it and replaced all four. When I picked up my car the squeak was still there just like before so I went back in and spoke with the shop foreman. He said it might be some debris or just some uneven wear on the brake pads and that they could smooth them out but it's not a warranty issue. I hoped it was debris or something and left, especially when he said it wasn't a warranty issue. I'm not one to pick fights, especially since these guys have always been good for me, so I found that kind of strange.

To this day, a month later, my brakes still squeak. It's especially bad in reverse most of the time. Going forward, sometimes the squeak is non-existant, very faint, or very loud. With this past weekends warmer weather I drove a lot with the windows down and I'd have to say that this squeaking might be even worse than before. I mean its pretty sad when the big bad bimmers breaks are squeaking when pulling up to a stop light. I think it's only the front brakes but I'm not sure.

So, this is a warranty issue right? How could it not be. And, has anyone else had this issue? What would the possible causes be of the squeaking? I'm about half way worn down on the pads, both front/rear, per the dealers last check.

I can honnestly admit that this is the first time I've ever been upset with the car and the dealers response. I'm probably going to schedule another service visit about this issue and push it all the way up to whomever until it's fixed but would like your input first.

I had the same problem. My brakes were squeaking and it was a horrible sound! I was so embarrassed pulling into a nice restraunt to valet and my car sounding like tank. :thumbsdown:
I took it in for service and the SA said that sensors were worn down and he would replace them. He also told me it wasn?t a warranty issue but he would do it anyways. Well they replaced the sensors and that fixed the problem, for now

Its an issue with the pads. As they wear the sensor begins to get worn down too. My SA replaced the pads with new ones and *i think* the sensors. No squeaks since but he did warn that the problem would return once the pads on the front two tyres wore down and could only be fixed when i had the pads replaced again.

Sorry to hear this - but how can this *not* be a warranty issue? If there's a part that can be replaced to address the problem I'd expect this to get done, and I wouldn't expect the SA's to act like they were doing me a favor. Even if it wasn't warranty per se, wouldn't it be covered under the maintenance program anyway? Hope this gets fixed soon for you....

Brake pad wear is not a warranty issue.

But if you have a maintenance plan it should be covered.

Lets be clear it has to be one or the other !

Sometimes my brakes squeak also but either they don't squeak as hard as yours or i'm just more tolerant.It happens only from time to time, but as you say it happens as the temperature raises or so it seems. It squeaked from time to time last summer but this winter not a sound...as soon as it hit for a short period of time 15 degrees celsius it started again...but it kinda has it's moments. It's not necesarely a must to squeak for a whole day if i hear it at a light stop. It might squeak only for that moment or several hours nor is necesary to squeak the next day also. And yes kinda weird the feeling but i heard it at mercs too, E classes. Maybe it has smth to do more with the automatic gearbox, of the way brakes work with this typical setup. I dunno, it didn't bother me that hard to pay a visit to the stealer. But when it happens for sure as helll they will change it for free, for the money i payed for that car.
And btw how in the world can senzors begin to worn out? I mean yeah pads get worn out, it's nautral but how does the braking senzor or whatever get worn out? It's like saying the automatic windshield wiper seznor gets worn out... Hmmm...

I had the same problem a few months ago and thought it was the break pads and brought it in for service. My dealer stated the same and said it wasn't the pads and to keep driving as it should go away. I waited for about a week and still the squeaking. I brought it back in and demanded they fix it whatever it was. They then stated it was the sensors as others stated here in this thread. They said they fixed/replaced them (whatever that meant and i didn't really ask). I was very skeptical about what my SA told me. The problem was gone after I picked up the car and haven't had any problems since.

Only other thing I can think of is maybe a pets' squeaky toy stuck in the wheel well?

I'd demand the dealer fix it whatever it is...our cars just shouldn't squeak...

Doesn't sound like regular brake pad wear though - sounds like it's the sensor that's faulty, which should be a warranty issue. At the end of the day, one way or the other it should get done, and you shouldn't be made to feel like someone is doing you a favor by fixing it!

Correct, but he is here in the states, where it should be covered under the maintenance plan...

It makes me feel uneasy that some of you have had the same issue, had these sensors replaced, then the squeak went away, while mine has not. Grrr!

Looking back at my invoice for that day it says "REMOVED FR AND REAR SENSORS TO MODIFY AND REGLUED TO PADS" -- I take it they weren't replaced, for those who've been through this, what does your invoice say?

It's been like this over a month now (service done on Jan 26th) and I really was hoping this problem would have gone away by now. As the weather warms up, the convertables come out, people have their windows rolled down, etc... The last thing I want is my brakes squeaking like some 15 year old Dodge. No, the squeak is not THAT horrible, but the fact that there's a squeak at all is problem enough IMO. Especially since there never was one before.
