Yes... it is a fact of life. Either the pads, the rotors are singing the annoying song. It went away when I changed my pads last summer, but it came back after a month or two.

Hi Ron,
Seems like going aftermarket is our only cure here... dealers across North America are convinced "it's normal." There is, however, a service bulletin about squealing brakes on our e60's.. something about brake sensors.. it may help your cause, check it out.

The squeeking or squeeling on our brakes is due to copper in the pads, when the pads heats up.....the copper squeeks.......you just learn to live with it.

+1 I had my brake sensor "adjusted" and that helped for awhile. Noticed wih the stock pads, there is a lot of brake dust. When washing the car I make sure to hose down as much brake dust as possible from the wheels, rotors and pads. It's amazing to see how much dust actually comes out. The brakes seem to quite down after that. Well for awhile anyway. After market pads do help from what I have heard.

Guys, sorry to revive this, but I seem to recall an "anti-squeal" clip of some sort that clipped on to each of the calipers of my old e39. I wonder if:
1. there exists such a thing on the e60 and,
2. in the event of excessive noise from pads/rotors, could it be that it is going bad?
I agree with the earlier poster - fora premium any car this is embarrassing and should not be considered "normal".
