Yesterday I drove my friends brand new 525i with sports package. I did not feel any difference from my non-sport e60.

Thoughts?

I'd say that sounds pretty unlikely, but we don't know how you drive.

You must not have pushed the car very hard... My 545 does not have the sports package and you can definitely feel some body roll when you're cornering hard. That is sharply reduced in the SP with the Active Roll Stabilization. Other aspects such as Active Steering you might not really notice.

In the MY 06 and MY07 models= No, separate option.

Good point! I'm an old timer, still had stuck in my brain that AS came with the sports package. It is indeed a separate option now. But he still should have been able to notice the active roll stabilization kicking in during hard cornering...

For '04 and '05 you could order Active Steering as a stand alone option. However, AS was a part of the Sports Package and you got AS when you ordered the Sports Package.

06 sport package doesn't include Active Steering. And it does not increase any hourse power.

But for 2k, I think it's money well spend.

Sport package includes:
Sport Suspension Calibration
Active Roll Stabilization
Satin Chrome Shadowline Exterior Trim
12 way power front sport seats
18" wheels and tires
Lowered car for better handling (I love the look)

Just try some cobblestones, and report back on your own findings...

ARS or not I've always been able to tell the difference in the suspension alone. I've always felt that the sport suspension should be the standard.
