Hi,

Read all the forums topics on this matter but yet to find a proper reply to my question: what is the main difference between the two ?

To my US readers, you can order here in Europe, the M one is part of an expensive pack while the other is a standalone option. In terms of spirit driving, does anyone tested both and which one would you prefer ? Thanks.

Ok, so no replies...

I'll rephrase my question since I won't be getting the M-Sport pack anyway.

Is the sport suspension too harsh or just right ? To take full advantage of it, do you have to have non-RFTs ?

In the US we don't have the option of an M suspension, so I can only tell you what I have read. The "Sport" suspension has slightly shorter and tighter springs than the normal suspension, and the active roll stabilization system. This gives a stiffer ride for more road feel and has the cool effect of hydraulically leveling the car out when there is high lateral acceleration (fast turns). The "M" suspension is more like a race car, with much stiffer springs and heavy duty sway bars that attempt to eliminate body roll altogether rather than countering it with gadgetry. The sport suspension will be more comfortable for daily driving.

I found the standard SE suspension too soft and wallowy. The lowered sports suspension is still comfortable but indeed a vast improvement once the RFT's are removed... I find it a good compromise but just sometimes I wish it was a little tighter.

For everyday driving?

I often have passengers and they really like the feel of the SE suspension.

In my opinion... I tried both and preferred the sharper sport-suspension option.

Put it this way all 5's ride better than my previous Astra Coupe Turbo - that was like riding with concrete wheels!!!!!

I wonder whether your passengers would?

I don't know if this helps, but the 550i sport (which I have) has a somewhat tight ride that is still very comfortable. Even a non-enthusiast would still find it comfortable. A 5 M-sport, I have read, has essentially the same calibration as an M5 which I have driven. Its a different type of ride all together. If you love the feel of an M3, E39 M5 etc.... go M-sport (the M people are the racing specialists!). If you want a car that is comfortable on the highway, the standard sport package with dynamic drive is a great compromise.

No complaints yet and the one who must be obeyed commented that the standard SE seats where too wide too. Therefore, electric sports seats and sports suspension... Everyone happy!

Couple things....
1) I still think someone needs to investigate the possibility of using the Euro spec springs over our US sport ones. I bet they are a bit lower, and a tad stiffer, and I'd go for both of those. We've been doing it for several cars over at the MB boards with excellent results; and 2)No, the V8 cars with sport are not calibrated anywhere near the stiffness or rebound of the M5. I've had both, and it ain't close. Just FYI...
