I came up with a difference of $8175 between on the MSRP of the 2 cars, equipped with automatic, cold weather package, premium package (standard on the 550i, extra on the 535i) and ZSP packages ($63850 vs. $55675). Adding an aero kit and 19" wheels/tires to the 535i will narrow that difference substantially, and if you want to do that chosing a 535i may make little sense given the additional cost involved. You might as well just get the 550i and receive the benefit of the M-suspension and sport tuned exhaust, which are not available on the 535i (save through after market tuners). If you can "live without" the aero kit, 19's, and other benefits of the 550i's ZSP package, then the $8175 spread makes the choice tougher. That spread is less when you factor the invoice costs and what you would pay for the car either above invoice or below MSRP. Plus, the 535's will be more plentiful, and will likely have larger available discounts available.

Lou
Thanks Lou. That is exactly the analysis I was goingto have to do. The M-suspension availability on the 550 does, at least to me, minimize the importance of the price difference.

Does anyone have any idea how it is going to compare with the current SMG?

From what I've been told, the sports automatic is what is now equipped in the current 335 if you wish to give it a test drive.

Do you think you would be happy with the "step down" from the 545 to a stock 535? Would you look to tune the 535? I am sure the performance of the 535 will be very good, but if is less than the 545, the step backwards may be hard to handle.
The 535 is lighter along with having an underrated engine, so in terms of straight line performance, nothing will be lost, and the 535 will arguably be faster than a 545.

In terms of weight, there is minimal difference between the 535 and 335 sedan. The e90 335 is as fast or even faster than a 545 below 100mph and promptly pulls away above 100mph. Don't forget the tuning potential as for roughly $1300, you will be a good deal faster than a 550.

I was going to reply with the same comments as heezy545i but he beat me to it. Heeyzy545i, hollywoodtrash, and I have seen first hand what the biturbo N54 engine can do. It will beat the 4.4 V8 in excess of 100 mph. It will be real close against a 4.8 V8. Possibly a driver's race. With the Vishnu PROcede software it's a match against the e39 M5.

Any stress, heating or other issues on the engine or drive train when remapping or altering the engine software with the Vishnu or other after market software? One concern about boosting performance that much is the impact upon the longevitty of the mechanics of the car. They were designed for the car as delivered, not as modified.

Hmm, this is getting a bit off topic.

You can try your question here http://www.e90post.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=58

Vishnu is the first tuner to offer a software/piggyback system, but there will soon by many offerings from other brands.

Is anyone entertaining the thought of a used M5? Low mileage examples can be had in the mid to low 70s.

Really?

Just wait until the arrival of the 2008 M5s in a few weeks. The market for the 2006 & 2007 M5s will plummet. I think by this summer there will be an influx of people buying used M5s.

I'm having a dilemma here... It about the sport auto, is it worth waiting for? I've a PW 14 on order, Monday is last day cancling it. If I get the early one, I wont get the new sport auto. But it's still a new auto from the one I have now? right?

I don't get why all press cars has the SA and so does the new X5, but not the early LCI 5s...

I would CANCEL and wait for the new SA. At least drive them both and then make your choice.
