Are you in the US? Personally I think the best way to tell is to get the VIN number and call BMW and ask them if the Sport Package option is in that particular car. The reason why I say that is the prior owner can change the rims, change the chrome trim to shadowline, and most people won't be able to notice a slight suspension drop. With the VIN, you'll definitely know. They can also have the active steering (you can check for the module under the hood, near the front of the car. It'll say active steering on it) and active roll stabilization added on as options too.

My 04 545 with Sports Package has all those that I listed above.

if you can stick 3 fingers inbetween wheel and fender then it hasnt got sport package. I know its not the best way but it works.

Thanks, I'm looking to buy either an 04 or 05 530 possibly 545, I've seen many ads that say "Sport Package" but they have the none sport seats, so I"m not sure. I've also checked with VIN decoders but they won't give you that detailed info. I guess going to BMW with the VIN is the only way. I'm in the US .
Thanks,

The shadow line (black) trim is a very good way to tell. Very few people go to the trouble of switching this. Not perfect, but I'd bet it is 99%.

I second that. very few people will go though the hassel to do this mod. i wont say its 99% but if the car is not heavily modified then the shadowline trim around the windows is the best way to tell. I say its 98%

Sport seats are a good indicator too. I cannot imagine someone spending money and replacing basic seats with the sport seats that aren't much better.
